Calmoseptine Classification

Calmoseptine is a topical ointment used for a number of infections. Calmoseptine is a brand name of zinc oxide and it sometimes is called menthol oxide. Other ingredients in this medication include petroleum jelly and cod liver oil.

Use

• Calmoseptine is an ointment for skin rashes, commonly diaper rashes for babies. The chemical may be used for small or minor burns and any medical irritations in the rectal area. Large wounds cannot be treated with Calmoseptine.

Considerations

• Fungal or bacterial infections cannot be helped with Calmoseptine. Consult a doctor as soon as possible concerning a fungal or bacterial skin infection.

Warning

• The high levels of zinc in the ointment makes Calmoseptine a harmful medication for anyone with a zinc allergy. Also, the cod liver oil and/or petroleum jelly in the ointment may cause an allergic reaction for some patients. Pregnant women should consult a doctor before using Calmoseptine.
