Home Remedy for Molluscum
Molluscum, formally known as molluscum contagiosum, is a viral skin condition caused by a type of poxvirus. Wartlike lesions around the genitals, thighs and abdomen are the most common symptoms. Most molluscum lesions or warts respond to the same treatment as classic warts, including home remedy treatments.-
Duct Tape
-
Apply a small piece of duct tape to the affected areas. Let the duct tape sit on the warts for at least one week. After one week, file down the wart using a small nail file or emery board. After filing the warts, recover the warts with another piece of duct tape. Continue this process until the warts are gone.
Salicylic Acid
-
Soak the lesions in warm water or an Epsom salt and water mixture for a few minutes. Next, apply a few drops of salicylic acid to the warts at least two times a day. Over time, the wart will become pliable. File down the lesion and gently lift away the base of the wart until it is no longer attached to the skin.
Tea Tree Oil
-
Terpinen, the active ingredient in tea tree oil, has antibacterial and antiseptic properties to heal and clean molluscum lesions. Tea tree oil can be purchased from your local health food store. Apply a few drops of tea tree oil to the affected areas daily. Over time, the warts will recede or fall off.
