Bio-Oil Stretchmark Treatment

Bio-Oil is a hypo allergenic skin care product available in drugstores and on-line, which claims to help improve the appearance of stretch marks, scars, uneven skin tone and signs of aging. It has been the focus of clinical studies, including a Union-Swiss commissioned study conducted by the Photobiology Laboratory of the Medical University of South Africa--an internationally recognized clinical test laboratory--on stretch mark healing.
  1. What Is Bio-Oil

    • Bio-Oil is a preservative free, oil-based lubricant that is applied to the skin. Ingredients include vitamin A, vitamin E, rosemary, calendula and lavender oil, which are all known for their skin conditioning properties. It also contains purcellin oil, a laboratory recreation of the oil glands in water birds like ducks and mineral oil.

    How To Apply It

    • Bio-Oil should be applied in a circular motion onto the area of skin where treatment is needed. Massage the treatment in for several minutes, twice a day, for a minimum of three months.

    Side Effects

    • One of the main ingredients in Bio-Oil is mineral oil called paraffinum liquidum that is a bi-product of petroleum. Petroleum jelly and mineral oil can clog the pores preventing the absorption of nutrients and slow down the skin's ability to release toxins. If you have a skin sensitivity to petroleum jelly, consult a doctor before using Bio-Oil.
