How to Clean a New Skin Piercing
Follow the instructions provided by your piercing artist. Always consult with them whenever you have a new piercing, as specific aftercare instructions may vary depending on the body part and individual health conditions.
Gather the necessary supplies. This includes a mild antibacterial soap, warm water, cotton swabs, and sterile saline solution.
Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap and warm water. This will help to prevent any bacteria from entering the piercing site and causing infection.
Prepare a warm water and antibacterial soap mixture. Mix a small amount of mild antibacterial soap with warm water. If you cannot use antibacterial soap, you can use unscented Castile soap or saline solution instead.
Soak the piercing. Gently soak the piercing in the warm water and soap mixture for 5-10 minutes. This will help to remove any discharge or crust that has formed around the piercing.
Clean the piercing. Gently clean the piercing site using a cotton swab soaked in the soap mixture. Be sure to clean all around the piercing, including the inside and outside of the piercing hole. Rinse the piercing thoroughly with warm water to remove any remaining soap.
Apply sterile saline solution. Gently pat the piercing dry with a clean paper towel or cotton swab. Then, apply a small amount of sterile saline solution to the piercing. This will help to keep the piercing clean and free of bacteria.
Don't use rubbing alcohol, peroxide, or Neosporin. These products can damage the piercing site and delay healing.
Continue cleaning the piercing daily. Clean your piercing as described above 1-2 times per day for the first few weeks. As the piercing starts to heal, you may be able to reduce how often you clean it.
