What do you with a horrible sunburn?
Here are some tips on how to deal with a terrible sunburn:
- Take a cool bath or shower. The cool water will help to bring down the temperature of your skin and provide some relief from the pain. You can also add some baking soda or oatmeal to the water for added soothing effects.
- Apply a cold compress. You can use a cold water bottle, ice pack, or even frozen vegetables wrapped in a cloth. Apply the cold compress to the burned areas of your skin for 15-20 minutes at a time.
- Aloe vera gel. Aloe vera gel has the healing and soothing properties and can help to reduce inflammation and provide relief from sunburn pain. Apply the gel liberally to the affected areas several times a day. Ensure you choose pure aloe vera gel without fragrances or additives.
- Use over-the-counter pain relievers. If the pain from your sunburn is severe, you may want to consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
- Stay hydrated. Sunburn can dehydrate your skin, worsening the burn. Ensure you are drinking plenty of fluids, especially water, sports drinks, or even coconut water for hydration.
- Avoid direct sunlight exposure. Your burnt skin needs time to heal and further skin exposure prolongs its healing
- Seek medical attention if necessary. If your sunburn is severe, develops signs of infection, or accompanies a fever, ensure you seek medical attention in time.
