What are the three tissue layers of skin?
1. Epidermis: The outermost layer of skin is the epidermis, which consists of multiple layers of cells. The outermost layer of the epidermis, called the stratum corneum, is composed of dead cells filled with keratin, a tough protein that helps protect the skin from damage and water loss.2. Dermis: The middle layer of skin is called the dermis. It is thicker than the epidermis and composed of connective tissue, blood vessels, hair follicles, and sweat glands. The dermis provides strength and flexibility to the skin and assists with thermoregulation and nutrient supply.
3. Hypodermis (or Subcutaneous Layer): The innermost layer of skin is the hypodermis, also known as the subcutaneous layer. It consists mainly of fat cells (adipocytes), which provide insulation, cushioning, and energy storage. The hypodermis helps maintain body temperature and protects deeper structures from mechanical stress.
