What is the aftercare for a skin biopsy?

Immediately After Your Biopsy:

- Keep the small bandage on the biopsy site for 24 hours to prevent infection and discomfort.

- If the biopsy site bleeds slightly after you remove the bandage, apply pressure to it until the bleeding stops.

- Avoid exposing the biopsy site to water for the first 24 hours to reduce the risk of infection.

Days 1-2 After Your Biopsy:

- Replace the bandage with a new one every 24 hours.

- Keep the biopsy site clean and dry.

- Avoid applying lotions, creams, or ointments to the biopsy site unless directed by your doctor.

- Avoid strenuous activity that may cause sweating, as sweat can irritate the biopsy site.

- Take pain relievers as needed to manage any discomfort.

Days 3-7 After Your Biopsy:

- Continue to keep the biopsy site clean and dry.

- You can remove the bandage and let the site air out if it is not weeping or draining.

- Avoid picking at or scratching the biopsy site, as this can delay healing and increase the risk of infection.

- If the biopsy site becomes red, swollen, or tender, or if you develop a fever, contact your doctor immediately.

After 7-10 Days:

- The biopsy site should be fully healed and you can return to your normal activities.

- You may still have a small scar at the biopsy site, but this should fade over time.

- If you have any concerns about your biopsy site or how it is healing, be sure to contact your doctor.
