Instructions

Cover the itchy, red spots with calamine lotion or anti-itch creams containing camphor or menthol. Avoid rubbing the lotion or cream into your skin. Gently dab it over the spots to keep from irritating the skin. Apply the anti-itch solution according to the dosage requirements on the container.

    • 2

Take an antihistamine to help alleviate itching. Skin irritations resulting from allergic reactions to poison ivy or oak, or hives caused by certain medications may benefit from antihistamines. Take the medicine only as directed.

    • 3

Fill a bathtub with lukewarm water. Sprinkle three cups of oatmeal into the bath water. Sit in the bath for 15 to 20 minutes, allowing the oatmeal to sooth itchy skin. Pat skin dry gently with a towel and avoid rubbing.

Wet a washcloth with cold water. Lay the cloth over the red spots to cool and relieve the burning and itching.
