Directions for Orajel Overnight Cold Sore Patch

Cold sores are painful blisters occurring on or around the mouth gums or lips caused by a form of the herpes simplex 1 virus. Also commonly referred to as fever blisters, the appearance of the lesions may be precipitated by an event such as weather change, menstruation, sun exposure or may occur for no known reason. If left untreated the blisters may last up to two weeks. Using the Orajel Overnight Cold Sore Patch to treat cold sores is a discreet method to treat the painful blisters and expedite healing time.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. Washing hands will remove bacteria accumulated during daily activities which will prevent the infection of existing sores. Hand hygiene also prevents further spread of the herpes virus that causes the painful cold sores.

    • 2

Cleanse the affected area with a mild soap and warm water. Remove any excess water with a towel but allow the area to remain damp.

    • 3

Remove the Orajel Overnight Cold Sore medication pouch from the box. The pouch is resealable and contains a card that holds several patches.

    • 4

Open the pouch and remove a card. One package of Orajel Overnight Patches contains eight medicated patches. Peel one medicated patch away from the card. Carefully lift the patch from the card to avoid the patch from folding onto itself.

    • 5

Place the Orajel patch on the cold sore so that the side that was against the card is on top of the sore.

    • 6

Tap the patch lightly to secure it in place. Re-moistening the sore will also help secure a loose Orajel Overnight Cold Sore patch.

    • 7

Leave the Orajel patch in place overnight. In the morning, or after approximately six hours, the patch will be partially or completely dissolved. Remove any of the remaining patch by lifting it away from the skin. Mild soap and water can also be used to remove stuck on pieces.

    • 8

Repeat every night as needed until the sore is healed or as directed by your health care provider.
