Phenolated Calamine Lotion is a topical treatment used to relieve itching and redness that come with a variety of skin conditions. This pink, thick fluid is applied directly to the skin to help soothe and protect it. It contains calamine and zinc oxide which are used to cover and protect skin by reducing inflammation. It also contains phenol which creates a anti-pruritic effect, meaning it helps prevent or relieve itching.

  1. Insect Bites

    • One of the most common uses of Phenolated Calamine Lotion is to temporarily relieve the itching associated with bug bites. A thin layer of Phenolated Calamine Lotion should be applied to the affected area. The redness of the bug bite will be reduced, and the need to itch will decrease as well.

    Poison Ivy

    • Another common use of the Phenolated Calamine Lotion is to relieve the general discomfort when skin gets irritated by poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac. It helps reduce the itching and pain that result when skin comes in contact with these plants. Additionally, this medication dries out the oozing on the irritated skin, which is caused by these plants.
