Granulex Ingredients

Granulex is a topical medicine designed to provide relief for a number of skin conditions, including wounds, sunburn and skin ulcers. Its three active ingredients are trypsin, Peru balsam and castor oil.
  1. Trypsin

    • Trypsin is an enzyme produced by the pancreas. Internally it aids in the absorption of protein. As a topical application, it functions as a debriding agent, aiding in the breakdown and removal of dead skin cells, and thus allowing a wound to heal more quickly.

    Peru Balsam

    • Peru balsam, sometimes listed as balsam Peru, is a resinous oil extracted from a balsam tree that grows readily in certain regions of Central and South America. Native Indians from the area have long used it to treat wounds. It functions as a mild antiseptic that may also aid in the growth of new skin cells. It is also widely used in the manufacture of perfumes.

    Castor Oil

    • Castor oil is a pale yellow liquid extracted from the castor seed. It has a long history of therapeutic use and remains a popular folk remedy for a variety of conditions. It is used externally to treat infections, wounds and athlete's foot. Internally it is used to treat constipation and other gastrointestinal disorders. In Granulex it functions to soothe and protect the affected area.

    Available Forms

    • Granulex is available in both prescription and non-prescription forms. It is manufactured for human use as an aerosol spray. For veterinary use it is sold as ointment, drops and in aerosol form as Granulex V.
