1
Determine the trigger for the condition, if possible. The source of the problem could be a physical reaction to an infection, drug, disease or even allergy. Once the trigger is identified and treated, the case of EN should heal as well.
-
2
Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as cortisone or ibuprofen to alleviate swelling in any joints and formed nodules, and to ease any pain. However, a trip to a doctor is required to get the most appropriate medication, and she may prescribe colchicne or potassium iodide to resolve the problem.
-
3
Get rest and try to limit physical activity to reduce painful swelling in the joints and nodules. EN can be aggravated and made more painful by too much activity that gets the blood pumping, as this can cause nodules to swell even more.
-
4
Try to keep any extremities where painful nodules appear raised above the level of your heart. This will help reduce swelling in any nodules that are causing pain.
-
5
Place alternating hot and cold compresses on any painful nodules to reduce discomfort.
-
6
Wear supportive bandages or stockings on any extremities where pain occurs. This can help alleviate some of the discomfort.
