1
Bathe or shower using warm water. Hot water may feel soothing after being out in the cold, but the water's temperature removes your skin's moisture and worsens itching and dryness. Bathe for no longer than 10 minutes so as not to further reduce your skin's natural oils.

2
Clean your skin with a mild soap, or a soap designed specifically for sensitive skin. Harsh soaps strip the skin of moisture and leave it vulnerable to harsh conditions. Many gel cleansers and moisturizing body washes are available for cleaning the skin without removing your natural oils.
-
3
Blot your skin dry with a towel. Do not rub the towel against your skin to absorb water, as rubbing causes chafing.
-
4
Massage a heavy moisturizer all over your body immediately after toweling off. The skin absorbs creams and moisturizing oils more easily when it is slightly damp. Re-apply moisturizer all over your body twice a day to maintain your skin's moisture. Use a fragrance-free moisturizer, as scented creams can cause an allergic reaction and can worsen itching.

5
Apply a prescription cortisone cream on dry, itchy patches of skin to reduce symptoms. Your dermatologist or primary physician can prescribe topical medication, which have more potency than over-the-counter medications. Use as directed.
