Ketoconazole Cream Indications

Ketoconazole is a topical medication used to treat infections caused by fungus or yeast. It kills the fungus or yeast and prevents its growth. It can be used to treat athlete's foot, ringworm of the body, seborrheic dermatitis, sun fungus or a yeast infection of the skin. It comes in different topical forms, such as shampoo, foam, gel/jelly, solution and cream.

Athlete's Foot and "Jock Itch"

• Ketoconazole cream can cure athlete's foot, also known as tinea pedis. Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that forms in moist areas of the foot, between the toes, which can cause itching, stinging and burning. The cream is also effective in treating "jock itch" in the groin area.

Ringworm

• Tinea corporis, or ringworm of the body, develops in the layers of the skin and has a circular, ring-like appearance; it can be itchy and red and can feel like a rash. Using ketoconazole cream as directed by your doctor can help rid you of this fungal infection.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

• Seborrheic dermatitis is often seen on the scalp or on the face and sometimes in chest areas. The skin is scaly and flaky and often very itchy.

"Sun Fungus"

• Pityriasis versicolor, often called sun fungus, is a common fungal skin infection that ketoconazole cream can relieve over a few weeks. Sun fungus changes the normal pigmentation of skin and leaves behind small patches of discoloration. Warm weather can aggravate the condition or make it more noticeable.
