Using Clobex for Psoriasis
Clobex is a brand name for clobetasol propionate, which is a powerful steroid medication. Steroids can relieve the itching, redness and scaliness of psoriasis. It is available in several topical formulations, including a shampoo, spray and lotion. Because of its strength, Clobex is indicated in moderately severe psoriasis and should only be used for as short as time as possible to improve symptoms.-
Clobex Shampoo
-
Apply Clobex shampoo to the affected areas of the scalp and gently rub in once a day when the scalp is dry. Avoid contact with the face, especially the eyes and lips. Leave the Clobex shampoo on for 15 minutes before washing hair, either with plain water or a non-medicated shampoo.
Wash your hands, neck, shoulder and any other areas that the Clobex may have touched.
Do not use Clobex shampoo for more than four weeks.
Clobex Spray
-
Spray Clobex on affected areas twice a day. A mild burning or stinging sensation may occur. Do not use in the groin or armpit or on the face; steroids can cause thinning of the skin in these areas.
Use beyond two weeks only on severely affected skin areas and do not use beyond four weeks.
Clobex Lotion
-
Apply Clobex lotion twice a day on affected areas. Do not cover with a dressing unless recommended by your physician. Do not use in the groin, armpit or on the face.
Use beyond two weeks only if severely affected areas are not responding. Do not use beyond four weeks.
Warnings
-
Do not use Clobex if you are allergic to steroids.
Clobex is not recommended for children under 18 years of age.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Use this medication only in the areas and for the duration recommended by a physician. Steroids can be absorbed through the skin into the body and affect the function of the adrenal gland.
