Home Remedies for Removing a Spray Tan

Spray tanner can be applied with an airbrush technique by a professional technician or straight from an over the counter, bottled product by any average joe. Instead of getting a bronzed to perfection skin tone, many folks who choose to spray tan wind up walking around looking like a fresh-picked carrot. Luckily, there are some methods for restoring your skin to its normal color with nontoxic ingredients most people have on hand at home.
  1. Jump in The Pool

    • If you have access to a chlorinated pool or can find one in your area, this is the easiest way to get rid of a bad spray tan. Spend a few hours swimming and letting the chlorine sink in and dissolve the pigments in the spray product. Though this method might not work on the first try, if you keep coming back and spend enough time immersed in the water you should see incredible results. Make sure the pool is chlorinated sufficiently for the best outcome, but don't dump excessive chlorine in your own pool or anyone else's thinking that will speed up the process.

    Sugar and Spice

    • Sugar, warm water and lemon juice can be mixed together into a paste for the spray tan that won't come off with soap and water in the shower. Spread the paste all over the spray-tanned areas of your body. Use your hands or a small, damp towel to apply the paste uniformly, and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Use a fingernail brush or lava soap while rinsing off the paste in a hot shower for any stains that prove tough to get rid of.

    Hydrogen Peroxide

    • If the all-natural paste isn't doing the trick you can try hydrogen peroxide. Mix some with water and apply it to the areas that still have some discoloration. Use a face cloth and keep the mixture out of your hair. You may want to wrap a towel around your head as a precaution, because even when diluted the peroxide can alter your hair color and give you a completely new problem to deal with. Let the areas you're targeting dry completely and take a hot shower to complete the process.

Keep Taking Hot Showers and/or Baths

    • Use some body scrubber products and granulated soap mixtures in the shower. If one long shower session doesn't do wonders, take three or four hot showers a day and keep scrubbing your skin where the spray clings to or won't wash off. Soak for a few hours in a hot bath with epsom salts, baby oil and baking soda if the showering doesn't make a dent. In most cases, persistence is the key. Keep up a daily routine of multiple hot showers or baths, and eventually even the most stubborn spray tan will fade away.
