How to Get Lice Off the Eyelashes of Children

Head lice are parasitic insects that live in the hair and on the scalp of humans -- they're tiny insects which are often spread among children due to close contact, most often through shared clothing, hats, hair brushes and combs. Lice are typically found on the head, but they can fall from hair and land in the eyelashes. Although this is rare, if you need to remove lice from a child's eyelashes, utilize the proper techniques to ensure you do it safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the child's eyes gently before starting. You want to avoid irritation and prevent any lice from actually falling into her eyes.

    • 2

Dab a small amount of plain petroleum jelly onto your finger.

    • 3

Rub the petroleum jelly lightly across the child's eyelashes, coating them in the gel, and repeat on the other set of eyelashes if necessary.

    • 4

Run a fine-toothed comb through his eyelashes to evenly distribute the petroleum jelly and help bring the insects out of the lashes. Rinse the teeth of the comb with hot water each time you draw the comb from the lashes, before brushing through the eyelashes again.

    • 5

Repeat this process morning and night for eight full days to ensure the lice and any nits are dead and completely removed from the eyelash hair.
