How to Use Mayo to Get Lice Eggs & Nits Out
Discovering that you or your child has lice can be disturbing, at the very least. The process of getting rid of lice and nits can be just as stressful. Most commercial lice products contain strong chemicals and insecticides. You may be hesitant to use these chemical-laden products on your children or yourself because of the potential harm they pose. Alternative treatments, referred to as suffocants, can be used to kill lice and nits so they can't continue to multiply.Things You'll Need
- Mayonnaise
- Shower cap
- Shampoo
- Nit removal comb

1
Smooth mayonnaise all over your head, working the mayonnaise over the hair from ends to roots. Add more mayonnaise to thoroughly coat the root area and scalp.
-
2
Place a plastic shower cap on your head and tuck your hair into the cap. Leave the shower cap on for eight hours to keep the mayonnaise on your scalp so it can kill lice and eggs.
-
3
Remove the shower cap and throw it away. Wash your hair with your normal shampoo to remove the mayonnaise and its accompanying oiliness.
-
4
Comb your hair from the root shafts to the ends to remove nits. Shampooing is likely to wash out dead lice, but nits are attached to your hair shaft with a substance similar to glue. A fine-tooth, nit-removing comb effectively removes the eggs after suffocating them with the mayonnaise.
