How to Use Molding Putty on Scar
Scar treatment technology is advanced today, with laser treatments, skillful suturing and even liquid sealing products that diminish the look of a scar. One of the advances in scar treatment involves a substance that resembles putty. In fact, it is called molding putty for scars. The substance is made of silicone and other polymers. It is used on scars to compress the wound in a way that speeds the healing of the scar. The putty comes with instructions, but is easy to use.Things You'll Need
- Molding putty bases
- Elastic bandage and/or splint

1
Measure enough of the putty bases to cover your scar. The bases are usually two clay-like substances of differing colors. The measurements won’t be exact. However, it is better to use a few tablespoonfuls of the bases for a small scar than to waste the entire jar. Measure equal amounts of the bases.
-
2
Mix the bases together to form the molding putty. Knead them together with your hands until the putty is a uniform color with no streaks.
-
3
Flatten the putty into a disc that will fit over the scar. It must be thick enough to apply some pressure to the scar, without breaking. Lay the putty on the scar.
-
4
Hold the putty in place as you wrap the area in an elastic bandage or place it in a splint and then wrap it. Wrap the area tightly to apply constant pressure.
-
5
Change the putty according to the instructions supplied by your doctor.
