How to Disguise Jowls & Double Chins
Jowls and double chins come with age. They are not attractive, but you don't have to live with them in their natural state. You can disguise them, tone the muscles and the skin that create the sagging look, and wear different hair styles that do not promote jowls and double chins.-
Weight and Water
-
Loosing weight is probably the best way to disguise an already sagging condition of the jowls and chin. It's obvious in overweight individuals when skin protrudes beyond it's normal range, imparting the heavy look. By losing weight -- even a few pounds -- the sagging skin, particularly in the facial area, begins to look flatter. In addition, when you lose weight, you usually also lose water, which can also make jowls and double chins slim down. If you feel that your jowls and double chin conditions are solely related to water, you can also see your health care provider for a possible diuretic.
Excersise
-
Even if you can't completely hide your jowls or double chin, you can disguise it by toning the skin and muscle that cause the problems. A regular facial exercise routine can tone your muscles and help hide the condition in only a few weeks. It relies on movement of the skin and muscle to work the skin on a regular basis. If you have a few minutes while you're sitting in a chair, frown and smile exaggeratedly and hold it there for a few seconds. Do this 10 or 20 times a day. Tilt your head back and then jut out your chin and hold it there for a few seconds. Make an exaggerated kissing motion and hold it until you get tired. Try chewing gum until your jaw is tired.
Clothing and Jewelry
-
It's obvious that the more attention you draw to your neck area, the more your jowls and double chins will show. To disguise them, don't exacerbate the problem by adding unnecessary jewelry or clothes. For men, don't wear tight ties or shirts that actually accentuate the bulge any more than it already is. Women should avoid chokers or necklaces that draw attention to the neck. One exception to the clothing rule is to try and find high, open collars that actually cover and hide the neck completely.
Hair and Makeup
-
Hair might be the simplest way to hide jowls and double chins. Avoid haircuts that put your hair at neck level or longer. Use hairstyles that use shorter layers on the crown of the head to make your head and neck appear longer. Don't use styles that hug the neck. Instead, use open neck styles that do not draw attention to the neck line.
Women can use makeup that is slightly darker than their natural skin color along the jaw line. This can make the jaw appear more prominent, focusing attention away from the neck
