How to Get Whiter Fingernails

Manicured nails create a clean, professional image, but keeping up the look on a weekly basis is an expensive and time-consuming habit. A quick, inexpensive way to keep the neat appearance is maintaining white fingernails naturally. Regular use of colored nail polish can stain nails, making them appear dull and yellow. In less than a half hour, a simple home treatment whitens nails to create a refined, pulled-together look.

  • Nail polish remover

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all polish with nail polish remover and a cotton ball.

    • 2

File the surface of the nails gently, removing the thin yellow top surface.

    • 3

File the top of each nail with a three-in-one buffer. Smooth the nail surface with Side No. 1. Buff each nail surface with the finer No. 2 surface. Press the No. 3 side on each nail surface, buffing light and fast.

    • 4

Mix 2 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda and a tablespoon of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide in a plastic bowl. Alternatively, you can make a paste of baking soda with white vinegar.

    • 5

Press the paste firmly under the tip of every nail using a cotton ball. Rub the mixture on the surface of every nail.

    • 6

Allow the paste to set for five minutes.

    • 7

Rinse the paste off with warm water.

    • 8

Massage a quality moisturizer into the nails and hands.

    • 9

Brush a clear base coat on the nails before painting to prevent nails from turning yellow.

    • 10

Maintain whiter fingernails by repeating the treatment every six weeks to eight months.
