What Causes Tiredness After Being Up a Short Time?
-
Illness
-
Illness can play a large role in lack of essential sleep. Often when people are ill, the quality of sleep is hindered by a variety of symptoms, such as coughing or a stomach ache. Illness largely requires people to sleep more to gain a full night of rest because of the ailment. If you discover you are ill, or are feeling rundown, get more sleep so you can recover more quickly. Anxiety, stress and depression may also affect your sleep quality, so engage in a relaxing activity before you turn in at night to alleviate your added strain.
Food
-
Evaluate what you had to eat the night before. Often, eating before you sleep keeps the body more active, due to digestion, than it should be while you are resting. Eating spicy food shortly before bed can also cause stomach upset or indigestion which can affect sleeping positions and quality. Avoid foods high in sugar.
Alcohol and Caffeine
-
Alcohol also plays a significant role in quality of sleep. Alcohol consumption can cause you to sleep heavier than normal, though it doesn't offer you the restful sleep that sobriety can provide. Stay away from excessive caffeine; which can hinder you from entering the REM cycle.
Iron
-
Low iron is another cause of fatigue in many people. Vegetarians, runners and people who avoid red meat are likely candidates. When your body lacks iron, your cells aren't getting enough oxygen, which causes you to be fatigued. Try taking iron supplements or altering your diet to include iron rich foods, such as red meat, turkey, enriched breakfast cereals and even asparagus. If you still feel fatigued, contact your doctor and have a blood test to see what other options may be available to you.
