How should you sleep with a broken rib?

On your back, with your head and neck elevated. This position will help to keep your ribcage immobile and reduce pain. Place a pillow under your head and neck, and another pillow under your arm that is on the side of the broken rib.

On your side, with the broken rib facing up. This position can help to relieve pressure on the broken rib and reduce pain. Place a pillow between your legs to help support your hips and spine.

In a recliner. A recliner can provide support for your back and neck, and can help to keep your chest elevated.

In bed, with the head of the bed elevated. If you can't sleep in a recliner, try elevating the head of your bed by placing pillows under your head and shoulders.

Avoid sleeping on your stomach. This position can put pressure on the broken rib and increase pain.

Additional tips for sleeping with a broken rib:

- Take pain medication as directed by your doctor.

- Apply ice to the broken rib for 20 minutes at a time, four times a day.

- Use a heating pad to relax muscles around the broken rib.

- Avoid activities that put pressure on the broken rib, such as lifting heavy objects or twisting.

- Get plenty of rest.
