What Causes Deep Sleeping?
A good night's sleep is something everyone desires. We go through different phases while we sleep -- light sleep, REM sleep and deep sleep. It is the deep sleep and the REM sleep that fully rest the body and restores it for the next day. There are simple changes you can make to your sleeping habits which will ensure you are getting enough deep sleep during the night.-
Regular Sleeping Patterns
-
Keeping a regular sleeping schedule is essential for getting deep sleep. Unfortunately, most of us sleep in on weekends trying to catch up on sleep, but this is counterproductive. It wreaks havoc on your sleep cycle and confuses your body. Make sure you get up and go to bed at the same time each night and keep strictly to the routine. This will get your body into the habit of knowing when it's sleep time, and you'll be more likely to fall into a deep sleep.
Don't Eat or Drink Late at Night
-
If you overindulge in a big meal right before bed, your body is going to be working all night digesting that food. This will either keep you up or make your sleep lighter so you don't feel rested in the morning. Try not to eat anything at least three hours before going to sleep. Steer clear of alcohol as well. It may help you fall asleep initially, but you are much more likely to wake up through the night, stopping you from reaching that deep sleep zone.
Exercise Regularly
-
Getting regular exercise is one of the best ways to ensure you get a good deep sleep at bedtime. It promotes sleep and also increases the quality of your sleep by changing the chemistry in your brain, according to Dr. Maoshing Ni, a doctor specializing in Chinese medicine. Aim to get 30 minutes of exercise at least five times a week. But make sure you don't exercise right before bedtime. This will wake your body up and keep you up. Don't exercise at least two hours before sleeping.
A Peaceful Setting
-
Making your bedroom into a "sleeping zone" is the best way to ensure a deep sleep at night. Make sure your bed is comfortable and there isn't any light to disrupt you. Try not to work or watch television in your bedroom. It should be a room only associated with sleep, rather than stress or distraction. A cool temperature will also ensure a good, deep sleep, so keep a window open if possible to keep fresh air coming in.
