How to Troubleshoot a GoodKnight 420 CPAP

The GoodKnight 420 is a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) device that treats obstructive sleep apnea. CPAP treatment works by pressurizing the upper airway so that it does not prolapse and block off breathing. The 420 is a fairly simple device to operate, but a few problems can occur with it. If the problem is user-serviceable, correcting it usually takes just a few seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the ramp feature if the CPAP device is not providing full pressure. Look on the LED display to see if a ramp symbol is present; if it is, press the "Ramp" key to turn ramping off.

    • 2

Clean the filters if the air coming from the device is considerably hotter than room temperature. Remove the filter cover from the rear of the device. Remove the filter and wash it in plain water.

    • 3

Correct your mask fit if your eyes are dry or irritated in the morning; this issue usually is caused by mask leakage. Tighten the straps on your headgear so that the silicone nose piece seals firmly against your face.

    • 4

Check the power cable if the CPAP device won't turn on. If the house circuit is functioning and the power cord is plugged in, the CPAP's internal fuse may have blown. Contact your respiratory therapist if this problem occurs.

    • 5

Look for signs of electromagnetic interference if the CPAP device runs erratically or the display looks distorted. Move the device away from powerful electric motors, radio transmitters, halogen lights and other sources of interference.
