How to Use Ear Plugs for Snorers

When your partner is a loud snorer, it takes some preparation to get yourself eight full hours of sleep at night. Snoring ranges from basic intermittent noise that isn't dangerous for the snorer, to loud gasping snores that might represent a major breathing problem of sleep apnea. If you can't sleep through the night, your own body suffers; a lack of sleep can weaken your immune system and cut your reaction time when in danger. Using ear plugs at night can help you get the rest you need.

Instructions

    • 1

Take one ear plug at a time and press the sides down as you roll it between your fingers until it is thin enough to slide into your ear canal. The sponge-like material used to make ear plugs makes them shrink down in size with and slowly expand.

    • 2

Insert the plug into your ear quickly after you stop rolling it. You want to push it in far enough to create a pressurized seal, but not too far. You need to be able to grab the back tip of the ear plug with your finger and pull it out.

    • 3

Wait for the plug to slowly expand, then repeat the process for the second ear plug. If done correctly, background noise will sound very muffled and there will be a louder echo in your head when you swallow. You can sleep on your side fine without any danger from the ear plugs, but be sure no to push them in any farther during the night.

Remove the plugs in the morning by taking an exposed end and pulling it straight out of your ear. Repeat this process for the second plug.

    • 5

Replace the plugs as needed; their ability to compress and expand decreases over time.
