How to Set the Respironics M Series

Sleep apnea is a chronic condition where the soft tissue of the upper airway closes during sleep, causing oxygen deprivation. This lack of oxygen, forces the person to wake up and take a breathe to replenish his oxygen supply. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or CPAP rquires the use of a CPAP machine to deliver positive pressure to the airway, keeping it open to avoid oxygen desaturation. CPAP also allows the user to sleep throughout the night, without continually be awakened due to oxygen deprivation.

Instructions

  1. Set-Up

    • 1

      Your machine has been pre-set by your durable medical equipment company, based on your physician's specifications.

      Place the Respironics M Series CPAP machine on a side table within 3 feet of the bedside and near an appropriately grounded electrical outlet. Plug one end of the AC power cord into the power supply, then the other end into an electrical outlet. Plug the power supply cord into the CPAP machine power outlet located above the filter, located at the back of the CPAP machine.

      Locate, then attach the flexible tubing to the optional white plastic swivel. Attach the swivel to the CPAP machine's air outlet located at the back of the machine, next to the power outlet. Or, attach the flexible tubing directly to the air outlet port, without the swivel.

      Press the "ON" button, located on the top of the CPAP machine, located in the center of the three buttons. Attach an interface device such as a face mask, nasal prong or nasal mask to the other end of the flexible tubing. Place the mask on the face. Your device is now ready to use.

      If you are using a humidifier, lift the humidifier cover and remove the water tank. Fill the tank to the fill line. Place the tank back in the humidifier chamber and close the cover. Turn the humidifier knob to the desired setting.
