How to Adjust a REMstar M Series
Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder that occurs when soft tissue in the throat collapse temporarily during sleep, blocking the flow of air. Deprived of oxygen, the brain briefly rouses the body to resume breathing, resulting in fragmented, low-quality sleep. Anyone can develop sleep apnea, but it is more common in people who are overweight, more than 40 years of age and male. Untreated, sleep apnea increases the risk of high blood pressure, stroke and other ailments. The Respironics REMstar M Series is a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device used for treating patients with obstructive sleep apnea by sending air down the throat through a mask or nasal inserts to keep the airway from collapsing. You can easily adjust a REMstar M series CPAP device to suit your preferences.Instructions

1
Press the "Ramp" button on top of the REMstar M Series, marked with a triangle, to lower the airflow pressure temporarily when the device is on, and then gradually increase, or ramp up, so you can fall asleep more easily. This is useful for patients who are less comfortable starting with the full pressure setting when they first go to bed.

Press the "C-Flex" button to adjust the amount of pressure relief when you exhale. The CPAP uses C-Flex to tell when you are exhaling and temporarily reduces the airflow pressure, making it easier for you to breathe out. When you stop exhaling, the pressure resumes at the full level. The LCD screen will display "C-Flex Setting" with an arrow pointing to a setting of "1," "2," or "3," with "1" providing a small amount of relief and "3" providing maximum relief. Press the "+" or "-" buttons to change the setting. Press the "Start/Stop" button to save your change and return to the standby screen.

Press the "+" button to bring up the "Patient Setup" menu then press the right or left arrow buttons repeatedly until you see the "Mask Alert" screen. Press the "+" or "-" button to set "Mask Alert" to "On" or "Off." When it is set to "On," the device will beep and display the message, "Mask Leak" when it detects a significant mask leak, alerting you or a caregiver to adjust the mask to fit more securely on your face. Press the "Start/Stop" button to save your change and return to the standby screen.

Press the "+" button to bring up the "Patient Setup" menu, and then press the right or left arrow buttons repeatedly until you see the "Auto Off" screen. Press the "+" or "-" button select "On" or "Off," to enable or disable the "Auto Off" feature, which makes the device automatically turn off the airflow whenever you remove the mask from your face or the nose tubes from your nose. When "Auto Off" is enabled, the display will read, "Auto Off Feature: On," and when it is disabled, the display will read, "Auto Off Feature: Off." Press the "Start/Stop" button to save your change and return to the standby screen.
