How to Solve Snoring

Snoring is a common problem among adults. It results from a variety of causes, including structure of the nose and mouth, sleep apnea, congestion or obesity. Snoring itself is not necessarily damaging but can signify other problems. See your physician to discuss possible causes and solutions, especially if it's interrupting the quality of your or your partner's sleep. If your doctor finds no medical reason for your snoring, try one of several home solutions to relieve your snoring and restore your sleep.

Sleep on your side. To remind yourself, cut a tennis ball in half and stitch it inside your night shirt. If you roll over in the night, the bump will cause discomfort and remind you to return to your side. Eventually, you won't need the reminder bump because your body will learn to stay on its side throughout the night.

Lose weight. Carrying extra weight on the folds of your neck puts pressure on your airways, making breathing difficult and increasing snoring.

Apply nasal strips, available at any drugstore. Unwrap the adhesive strip and place either side just below the bridge of your nose. The strip pulls your upper nostrils outward, increasing the airflow and reducing snoring.
