How to Repair a CPAP Hose
The hose that connects a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine to the mask is made from a plastic film that's stretched over a flexible plastic coil. While the coil is nearly indestructable, the film can tear, particularly at places where it gets bent the most, such as the connection to the machine or to the mask. These tears cause leaks that can significantly reduce the air pressure at the mask and compromise the effectiveness of CPAP treatment. However, it's easy to make a temporary repair.Things You'll Need
- CPAP airway hose
- Electrical tape
- Scissors
Instructions

1
Locate the area of the tear. This will generally be between two sections of plastic coil.
-
2
Stick the free end of the electrician's tape over the tear.
-
3
Make three wraps of electrician's tape around the hose, keeping a bit of tension on the tape so that it stretches. One wrap should go directly around the tear, the other two should overlap the first wrap on either side.
-
4
Cut the tape with the scissors and press it firmly onto the hose.
