How to Identify Seroquel
Seroquel is a quetiapine marketed by AstraZeneca. Quetiapine belongs to the chemical class dibenzothiazepine derivatives and is an atypical antipsychotic used to treat the symptoms of schizophrenia. Off label use is common and includes treating insomnia, PTSD and anxiety. The exact method of action of quetiapine is unknown, though it is thought to antagonize dopamine type 2 receptors and serotonin type 2 receptors. The pure powder is white to off-white and is moderately soluble in water. However, seroquel comes in a variety of preparations.Instructions

Determine the color of the medicine to be identified. Seroquel comes in peach, yellow, white, and orange tablets. Seroquel XR -- extended release -- comes in peach, white, yellow, and pale yellow.
-
2
Determine the shape of the medication. Seroquel comes in mostly round tablets with the exception of 300 mg and 400 mg tablets which are capsule shaped. All of the Seroquel XR tablets are capsule shaped.
-
3
Determine the writing on the medication. All Seroquel tablets are imprinted with the word "Seroquel" and the dosage in milligrams. The dosage may be on the same side as the Seroquel imprint or may be on the reverse. Seroquel XR does not contain the "Seroquel" imprint. An "XR" imprint is used instead.
