How do I Set a SleepStyle 200 CPAP Machine?

Patients who suffer from sleep apnea often use continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines while sleeping. Sleep apnea is a disorder in which the patient stops breathing while sleeping. A CPAP machine works by elevating the air pressure to keep the airways open. You must wear a mask attached to the machine while sleeping. Before using any brand of CPAP machine, consult with your doctor regarding appropriate pressure levels for your condition.

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Set the machine next to your bed, below the height of where your head will rest.

    • 2

Take the blue caps off of one of the water chambers.

    • 3

Fill the water chamber with distilled water up to the filling line.

    • 4

Press the finger guard down, and insert the water chamber. Listen for a "clicking" sound. This sound tells you that the chamber is in the proper position. If you do not hear the sound, remove the chamber and re-insert it.

    • 5

Locate the white plastic connector on the end of the tube. Press the connector on top of the opening on the top of the water chamber. Attach the opposite end of the tube to your mask.

Plug the CPAP machine into an outlet.

Switch the power button to the "on" position. Evaluate the display, and determine if you need to change the settings.

    • 8

Press the ramp button, located to the left of the power button. This automatically reduces the pressure, which may help you fall asleep more easily. Over the next 20 minutes, the pressure will gradually increase back to a normal level, according to the operating manual.

    • 9

Press either the up or down arrows, located below the ramp button, to adjust the pressure up or down.
