Auto CPAP Benefits

Unlike older Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices, auto CPAP constantly adjusts the air pressure delivered at the mast, according to the needs of the patient. Auto CPAP machines deliver just enough air pressure to keep the patient's soft palate from prolapsing, without delivering too much pressure at the mask. While more expensive than CPAP or biPAP machines, auto CPAP devices offer a number of important benefits.
  1. Greater Comfort

    • Because the auto CPAP device is never delivering too much pressure, it allows the patient to sleep more comfortably. Auto CPAP devices also tend to ramp up pressure smoothly as the patient falls asleep, to maintain patient comfort at bedtime.

    Better Patient Compliance

    • Auto CPAP machines are more comfortable for patients than older devices, never delivering too much pressure or forcing the patient to exhale against significant pressure. Greater comfort means the patient is more likely to stick with his CPAP treatment.

    Less Airway Dryness

    • Because auto CPAP devices increase air pressure only when needed, they are less likely to dry out the nasal passages. By the same token, patients are less likely to experience sinus headache when using auto CPAP.

    Sounder Sleep, Less Fatigue

    • The device also adjusts to prevent sleep apnea even if the patient's pressure needs increase during the night. This results in sounder sleep, less arousal and less daytime sleepiness.
