How to Adjust the REMstar Auto DS550HS

If you are using a REMstar Auto DS550HS to treat sleep apnea, or if you are helping someone use the device, you might need to adjust its settings. Sleep apnea is a condition where the soft tissue of a sleeping person's throat temporarily collapses during sleep, causing the sleeper to briefly rouse in order to take a breath. A REMstar Auto DS550HS CPAP device delivers continuous positive airway pressure through a mask or nasal canals, which prevents the throat's soft tissue from collapsing and keeps the sleeper's airflow going. You can easily adjust the REMstar Auto DS550HS according to your preferences.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the "On/Off" button to activate the REMstar Auto DS550HS device. Press the "Ramp" button to temporarily reduce the air pressure from the level set by the patient's physician. The ramp feature gradually increases the pressure to help patients get to sleep while wearing the mask if they are uncomfortable starting with the full pressure setting.

    • 2

Press the "Heated Humidifier" button to enable the humidifier, but only do so if you have previously filled the humidifier chamber with purified water. The heated humidifier option produces moist, warm air, which some patients find more comfortable to breathe than untreated dry, cold air.

    • 3

Press the "On/Off" button to turn off the REMstar Auto DS550HS. Press and hold the "Ramp" button when you want to change the alert tone setting. Press the "Right" button repeatedly until you see the "Patient Disconnect" icon, which is a circle on top of the letter "C." Press the "Ramp" button to toggle between "1" for "On" and "O" for "Off." Enabling the "Patient Disconnect Alert" option causes the REMstar Auto DS550HS to make a beeping sound whenever it detects a large leak lasting at least 45 seconds, which indicates the patient has taken off the CPAP mask or removed the nasal canals. Press the "On/Off" button to save the change.
