Gel Vs. Ointment
-
Ointments
-
Ointments -- unlike gels -- have staying power as they stay on the skin for a longer duration. This makes them ideal for areas of the body that are in need of extended treatment or must endure a good deal of friction.
Gels
-
Unlike ointments which are oil based, gels are water-based protein structures and will absorb into the skin quickly. Gels will not leave a residue or be visibly noticeable. This makes them ideal for the face, forearms and hands.
Considerations
-
Gels are ideal for areas that a person would find embarrassing to put a noticeable ointment because of their quick absorption. Ointments have staying power and can deliver medicine over an extended period to an afflicted area. Both are equally effective in alleviating discomfort.
