How long can a tourniquet be left on?

A tourniquet should never be left on for more than two hours. Leaving a tourniquet on for longer than this can cause serious tissue damage and even lead to amputation. If a tourniquet is needed for more than two hours, it should be loosened for a few minutes every 30 minutes to allow blood to flow back into the limb.
