What Are the Treatments for Mouse Finger?

Mouse finger is a condition brought on by repetitive use of your index finger to click your computer mouse. The condition is closely related to carpal tunnel syndrome and the treatments are similar.
  1. Soaks

    • Warm or cold soaks with Epsom salts can be beneficial to take down swelling. An ice pack on the top of the first finger joint or underneath the wrist eases the pain.

    Braces

    • Support while you sleep is very important. Wear a carpal tunnel brace when you aren't using the hand to avoid further injury.

    Ergonomic Equipment

    • Buy a mouse that is ergonomically designed so you don't need to lift your finger to click. Try a padded mouse pad to see if having your finger higher takes the pressure off while clicking.

    Rest

    • One of the best things you can do for this type of repetitive use injury is to rest it. If you are able to take time off work, do so. Be sure to stay off your home computer as much as possible as well.

    Surgery

    • The final option to consider is surgery to relieve the pressure in the carpal tunnel, which in turn will help the finger pain.
