Symptoms of Plantar Fasciatis

The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that runs across the arch of the foot connecting the heel and the bottom of the foot. Occasionally, this tissue can become inflamed due to overuse or acute injury. A few symptoms are hallmarks of plantar fasciitis.
  1. Most Common Pain

    • The most common pain associated with plantar fasciitis is located on front part of the center of the heel. When pressed, the pain is very sharp.

    Less Common Pain

    • The pain can also be located in arch or the ball of the foot.

    Severe Pain

    • Plantar fasciitis pain is most severe with the first few steps in the morning. Gradually, the pain dissipates throughout the day. Plantar fasciitis pain is usually worse when the toes are flexed upward or you stand on the tips of your toes.

    Who Is Affected?

    • Plantar fasciitis can occur in people who are overweight, older or extremely active. It also tends to occur in people who stand a lot.

    Prevention/Solution

    • The symptoms of plantar fasciitis can be alleviated with anti-inflammatories and ice applied to the painful area. Other treatment options include corticosteroids, night splints and exercises.
