What Are the Causes of Plantar Faciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a condition where the plantar fascia, which is a tendon on the bottom of the foot, becomes inflamed. When this happens, a significant amount of pain can be felt from the heel up toward the front of the foot. There are several different things that can cause plantar fasciitis.
  1. Calves

    • One of the main reasons why plantar fasciitis develops is because of the calf and foot muscles being too tight.

    Running

    • Repetitive running causes the bottom of the foot to compress, which puts a lot of stress on the plantar fascia leading to fasciitis.

    Jumping

    • Repetitive jumping motions, especially landing on the heel, can cause plantar fasciitis. Some examples of this are playing basketball and volleyball.

    Dancing

    • Dancing can also cause plantar fasciitis. This is especially the case with excessive jumping and landing.

    Gait

    • Walking with a bad gait can cause plantar fasciitis. An example of this is oversupination, where the impact on the ground is not evenly distributed on the bottom of the foot.

    Arches

    • The arch of the foot should have a natural curve to it. If there is a high or low arch, this can cause plantar fasciitis.
