How to Make an Alcohol Compress Using a Freezer
The cold compress or ice pack is any self-respecting mom's or athlete's go-to remedy for sprained ankles, head bumps and a variety of everyday injuries. While it's certainly possible to buy a compress at your local pharmacy or discount chain, it's easier and cheaper to make one for yourself at home using simple household components. Using rubbing alcohol ensures that the water won't freeze so hard that the remedy is just as painful as the injury.Things You'll Need
- Water
- Rubbing alcohol

1
Mix the water and alcohol together. Place 2 cups of water into a large measuring cup and add 1 cup of rubbing alcohol. Although you can substitute 80 proof vodka, rubbing alcohol is cheaper.
-
2
Pour the alcohol and water mixture into a one gallon-size plastic bag, then place that bag inside another gallon-size plastic bag. The alcohol will prevent the water from freezing solid; the pliability of the semi-frozen mix allows it to gently surround an injury.

3
Place the double-bagged mixture into the freezer for 24 hours. Once it's semi-frozen, it's ready to use. Before applying it to an injury, wrap it in a towel. The cold will seep through the towel, and it will be easier to hold.
