How to Treat a Strained Achilles
A strained Achilles tendon (Achilles tendinitis) can occur from overactivity, a direct injury to the lower leg, foot or ankle, or as the result of insufficient pre-exercise conditioning. Achilles tendinitis can heal within six weeks if you rest and treat your ankle properly. Left untreated, Achilles tendinitis can lead to rupture of the tendon, which would require surgery to repair.Things You'll Need

1
Rest your injured foot. Allow the inflammation to subside before resuming strenuous activity. Symptoms can be prolonged, worsen or reoccur if you resume activity too soon.
-
2
Apply a cold compress for 10 to 15 minutes every three hours immediately after the injury occurs or is aggravated. Use an ice pack or bag of ice. The cold will dull the pain and help reduce inflammation.
-
3
Apply a heating pad to the area 24 hours after the injury occurred or is aggravated, and before beginning stretching and strengthening activities. Do not apply heat until the swelling has gone down or unless directed to do so by your doctor.
-
4
Wrap your injured ankle with an elastic bandage. The bandage will help immobilize the ankle.
-
5
Take ibuprofen to relieve pain and inflammation.
-
6
Seek a doctor if your symptoms worsen or do not improve after two weeks.
