How To Tape a Sprained Ankle
Step 1: Gather your supplies
- Adhesive tape (1.5-2 inches wide)
- Scissors
- Skin prep
Step 2: Prepare the ankle
1. Wash and dry the ankle.
2. Apply skin prep to the ankle.
3. Bend your foot about 30 degrees upward
Step 3: Apply the tape
1. Start by wrapping the tape once above the ankle bone, encircling the ankle.
2. Continue to wrap the tape around the ankle, passing it over the laces of your shoe.
3. Make sure the tape is snug, but not too tight.
4. Repeat this process 3-4 times.
Step 4: Secure the tape
- Cut two small pieces of tape and place them vertically along the tape edges to help it stay in place.
Tips
- Taping your ankle should help reduce swelling and provide stability to your ankle.
- If the tape is too tight, it can cause discomfort and restrict blood flow.
- If the tape is too loose, it will not provide enough support.
- If you are experiencing pain, numbness, or tingling, remove the tape immediately.
- If your sprain is severe, you should see a doctor for further evaluation and treatment.
