How to Wrap an Injured Foot

A sprain, cut or other injury to the foot can often be treated by wrapping the injured area. An Ace wrap is a very effective tool for reducing swelling and keeping the area immobile. This type of wrap can also be used to secure an ice pack, splint or other bandages to the foot. Wrapping an Ace wrap in a manner suitable to the contours of the foot can be tricky, but once you get the hang of it you'll be rewrapping the area quickly and efficiently each time the bandage needs to be changed.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the end of the wrap in the center of the top of the foot. While holding the wrap here with one hand, use the other to begin to pull the wrap around to the bottom of the foot. Circle the center of the foot twice to secure the end of the wrap.

    • 2

Move the wrap upward toward the ankle, wrapping in an overlapping "X" pattern as you move upward.

    • 3

Skip the heel of the foot and continue to the ankle. Encircle the ankle with the ace wrap, going behind the ankle first, then coming around to the front. Wrap the bandage around the ankle at least twice to secure it.

    • 4

Fasten the end of the bandage with a metal clip or small piece of tape.
