What is Cerebellum Infarct?
Cerebellar infarction is a stroke that affects the cerebellum, a region of the brain located at the back of the skull, below the cerebrum. It is responsible for coordinating movement, balance, and posture. Cerebellar infarction occurs when blood flow is blocked to this area, typically due to a blood clot or a buildup of plaque in the arteries leading to the cerebellum. As a result, the cerebellum is deprived of oxygen and nutrients, causing damage to its cells and leading to various symptoms, such as slurred speech, dizziness, and coordination problems. Cerebellar infarction requires prompt medical attention to minimize the potential consequences of the stroke and facilitate recovery.
