Having a stroke, or having a loved one experience a stroke, can be a devastating experience. However, with the many studies that have been done on this medical condition, treating stroke patients is now an option.

      Provide medication. There are two options for medication for someone who has a stroke. These can be anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents. Your doctor will know which medication is right for treatment of a stroke.

      Use a clot buster. Clot busters are a newer treatment and are most commonly placed intravenously, but some medical centers give clot busters into arteries. This mention helps treat stroke patients by eliminating the cause of the stroke, as well as future strokes.

      Get surgery. Some stroke patients can be treated through surgery. This depends on the type of stroke the patient has suffered, and a physician should be consulted for this type of treatment.

      Rehabilitate. The effects of a stroke on a patient can sometimes be treated through rehabilitation. This therapy helps to provide the environment and experience to restore processes in the brain after a stroke.

      Treat other symptoms. Treatment of blood pressure that is either too high or too low is necessary in treating stroke patients. Getting blood pressure back to the normal range elevated blood pressure into the normal range is important but should be done after the first few days following a stroke.
