What do hpo- and hyperthyroidism mean?
Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are two conditions that affect the thyroid gland. The thyroid gland is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck. It produces hormones that regulate metabolism, growth, and development.
Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. This can cause a variety of symptoms, including fatigue, weight gain, constipation, dry skin, and hair loss.
Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone. This can cause a variety of symptoms, including weight loss, anxiety, irritability, diarrhea, and sweating.
Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can be treated with medication.
