Do you still have Graves Disease once the thyroid has been destroyed?
Once a person has undergone a thyroidectomy, the surgical removal of the thyroid gland, Graves' disease is potentially cured; however, in a small number of cases, people may still have abnormal thyroid antibody levels even after their thyroid has been removed.
Without a thyroid gland, a person can no longer produce thyroid hormones, so they will need to take thyroid hormone replacement medication for the rest of their life to maintain normal thyroid function.
