Signs & Symptoms of Hypo Thyroid

Hypothyroidism is a dysfunction of the thyroid gland in which the gland does not produce adequate amounts of thyroid hormone. When thyroid hormone is produced in insufficient quantity, certain signs and symptoms will result.
    • Signs of Hypothyroidism

    Weight Gain

    • Since the thyroid gland regulates the metabolism in the body, a decreased output of thyroid hormone in the body will cause metabolism to slow down, leading to weight gain.

    Headaches

    • Lack of adequate thyroid hormone in the body can cause chronic headaches that resemble cluster headaches or mild migraines.

    Dry, Rough Skin

    • The skin can become dry and rough as a result of decreased thyroid hormone in the body. This can appear as flaking or cracking of the skin o the hands, arms, face, and legs.

    Hair Loss

    • Thyroid hormone helps maintain proper circulation in the body. Poor blood circulation can suffocate growth of the hair follicles, often resulting in hair loss on the scalp, arms and eyebrows.

    Temperature Sensitivity

    • Hypothyroid sufferers have a difficult time maintaining a normal temperature, and are usually one to two degrees colder than someone who has a normally functioning thyroid gland. This can cause someone with a thyroid problem to frequently feel cold.
