What Is the WT3 Protocol?
WT3 protocol is the treatment prescribed for "Wilson's Syndrome." Dr. Denis Wilson has proposed recognition of this syndrome which is typified by chronic low body temperature and may include a range of symptoms indicative of low thyroid function but which occurs in patients with no apparent thyroid dysfunction.-
WT3 Protocol
-
Wilson's Syndrome is distinguished by how the body processes thyroid hormones as opposed to how much hormone is produced and available. WT3 Protocol primarily consists of administration of the T3 thyroid hormone, and possibly other supplements, to patients who have been diagnosed with Wilson's Syndrome. WT3 protocol involves increasing doses of T3 until the symptoms are resolved. Once homeostasis is achieved, the dosage is reduced.
ATA Statement
-
The American Thyroid Association (ATA) issued a statement on May 25, 2005, which concluded in part "The American Thyroid Association has found no scientific evidence supporting the existence of 'Wilson's Syndrome.'"
Contradictory Evidence
-
In the the March 2006 edition of the "Puerto Rico Health Services Journal," Drs. Michael Friedman, Jorge R. Miranda-Missari and Dr. Michael J. Gonzalez reported success using the WT3 protocol to treat Wilson's Syndrome. They also cited statistical evidence to support their claims.
