Recovery Time From Morton's Neuroma Surgery

Morton’s neuroma, also referred to as plantar neuroma and Morton’s neuralgia, is a benign growth that develops on the nerve in the foot usually between the third and fourth toes. However, it is sometimes detected between the first and second toes.
  1. Surgery

    • Surgical treatment of Morton’s neuroma typically consist of the removal of the neuroma as well as the nerve itself, according to the Mayo Clinic.

    Recovery Time

    • The recover period may take up to 12 weeks. Your physician may prescribe pain relievers for you to take.

    Darco Shoe

    • After the surgery, your physician will send a special shoe home with you--Darco. Your physician may request that you wear the Darco while walking or standing over a period of four weeks.

    Crutches

    • Your surgeon may also supply you with crutches or a cane. This will assist you while walking and help keep most of the weight off of your foot while it’s healing.

    Dressing Care

    • You physician may instruct you on the proper way to change your dressing. He may also instruct you to keep the dressing dry.
